Matt Hodges, opened Icon Allstars in 2004. In 2013 Icon Allstars merged with ATL to create ATA. With many years of coaching experience, his all-star cheerleading teams have won over 60 National Championships and more than 125 top five finishes in a short 5 year timeframe. Matt also brings more than eight years as a competition gymnast to the gym. Securing world renowned choreographers and experts each year to create exciting and unique routines, Matt collaborates with these experts to “Fine Tune” routines to match the skills of each team member. He is instrumental in the music design for each of his allstar teams. Matt currently coaches allstar cheering and tumbling classes in addition to providing coaching to the cheer teams at local area schools. Matt graduated in 2001 with a degree in Business Management. He also spent 7 years in the United States Armed Forces. Matt resides in Cumming, GA with wife Danielle, son Gray, and dog Puppy Ray.
Reed is the former owner of ATL Allstars. Reed began his athletic career at a young age as a gymnast and eventually captured the state gymnastics title in 1989. During a successful career at Sequoya High School, Reed was a four year letterman in football, wrestling, track, and tennis. Reed attended Kennesaw State University. Since college, Reed has coached Optional Gymnastics for three years and has coached Allstar Cheerleading for 17 years. During his coaching career, Reed has been instrumental in leading countless teams to national championship titles. Reed resides in Gainesville, GA with his wife Stephanie and three daughters, Charli, Harper and Finley. In 2013, Reed and Matt merged two successful programs into one! We are now ATA with the Icon Blue as our gym colors!
Cassie has many years of cheerleading and coaching experience. Cassie joined ICON ALLSTARS in 2005. Cassie received the Jump Award from South Forsyth High School where she cheered competitively for four years. South Forsyth High School Competition Cheerleading won three State Cheerleading Championship Awards from the fours years she cheered competitively. Cassie continuously builds her Allstar teams through motivation and encouragement. She currently coaches All-Star teams, tumbling and flexibility classes.
Emily Jones competed in both allstar and school cheer for over 10 years. She was a member of
ATL’s first Worlds team and was coached by Reed and Alex for many years. After high school,
she continued cheering at Valdosta State University where she won the Division II Small Coed
division at NCA College Nationals in 2013. She first started coaching allstar cheer in South
Georgia in 2012. After graduating from VSU in 2015 with a degree in Early Childhood Special
Education, she became the Allstar Director at South Georgia Allstars. While coaching at South
Georgia Allstars, she won numerous national titles including Varsity’s D2 Summit in 2016 and
2017. She is USASF certified in stunting and tumbling for levels 1-6. She is currently living in
Cumming Georgia with her husband, Hunter, and two dogs Tucker and Teddy.
Cody Shafer has been in the cheerleading industry for 15 years. In that time he has been a part of winning many national championships as well as summit finalist and a top 3 at the worlds. In the last two years he has won Cheersport back-to-back, received 2 full paid bids to the varsity all stars summit competition, 2 at large bids to the summit, and has taken 3 of the 4 teams to the finals! Cody has a major focus on helping athletes to achieve their goals through proper technique and drills.
Sarah has worked proudly for Icon for the past 3 years! She cheered for Icon Allstars Senior Level 4 team and has made us proud by cheering in college! She won mulitple titles with her cheer team at North Georgia College & State University. Sarah graduated in May of 2013 from NGCSU and is a full time PE Teacher at Sawnee Elementary.
Sarah Duggan was a competitive gymnast and cheerleader for a total of 15 years. She has coached all star cheerleading for 8 years. Sarah is so excited to be at ATA, teaching these kids to love cheer as much as she does. She also has a daughter Maddison Duggan that is following in her foot steps cheering for ATA making this gym feel even more like family.
Nam Nguyenvu grew up in Lawrenceville, GA and graduated from Parkview High School in 2010. He went on to college at Kennesaw State University and made the KSU cheerleading squad his freshmen year. Nam first began his involvement in cheerleading when he did allstar cheerleading at Force Elite located in Snellville, GA back in 2009. He then transitioned to Pro Cheer Allstars in the summer of 2010 to compete on the Senior Unlimited Coed level 5 team. Nam and his team placed 3rd at the 2011 USASF World Championship. After Nam aged-out of the senior division, he ventured into coaching cheerleading for high schools and allstars. Nam has won many national titles as a coach as well as sending his teams to The Summit by Varsity throughout the years. Nam lay-coached competition cheer for Ola High School in McDonough, GA in 2013-2014 (undefeated season) and Lanier High School in Suwanee, GA in 2015-2017 (won the first ever region title for the program). Nam has judged for IEP Deep South Spirit. He is a certified judge and lay-coach for GHSA cheerleading and he is also USASF and CPR/First-Aid certified.
Lance is originally from Paterson, New Jersey. He attended and cheered for Temple University located in Philadelphia, PA. He has been involved in the cheer industry for 20 years and coached at several programs including New Jersey Spirit Explosion, Stingray Allstars, Platinum Elite Allstars, Fame Allstars, and ACX cheer. Lance is certified through USASF in all levels 1-6. Lance has been on coaching staffs to claim several National titles including NCA National Championships and a Worlds Title. Lance also works at Varsity Allstars as a judge as well as a certified USASF credentialing agent. Over the past 14 years, Lance has enjoyed doing choreography all across the country. His choreography has won multiple awards to include best dance and best choreography with Varsity. His movements flow seamlessly, his routines are clean, and he will leave you with a product that is easy to read so that his clients can perfect their routines resulting in strong finishes. Lance creates innovative and creative routines that highlight a team's strengths and will maximize the score sheets. As a coach, his strengths are being able to build progressions with all athletes and finding a way to reach any and all athletes while understanding that each athlete learns differently. He coaches with a positive outlook to make sure they feel comfortable as they grow as an athlete!
Michael, known as Murph, has been in the cheerleading industry for 16 years. Out of high school, he joined a large coed team at Atlanta Thunder X-treme where he was coached by Reed. Murph attended North Gwinnett High School, where he lettered in Football, Baseball, and Golf. After graduating in 2003, he attended Gainesville State University, now known as North Georgia. He immediately joined the coaching staff with Reed and was involved with the opening of ATL Allstars. Through his years of coaching, he has led his teams to numerous National Championships with multiple wins at NCA, UCA, and Cheersport, and coaching large coed teams to finals at Worlds. He has also coached and done choreography for middle school, high school, and allstars teams. Murph is a GHSA certified lay coach and serves as a USASF certified credentialing agent. Murph resides in Buford, GA with his wife Melissa and two daughters, Makayla and Mya, whom are both athletes at ATA!
